PRP Under Eyes in Surbiton
PRP under the eyes is a course of small injections of your own platelet-rich plasma into the thin skin of the under-eye area. Blood is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma is placed carefully across the area. What PRP Under the Eyes Is Used For
The skin under the eye is the thinnest on the face, which is why it shows change first and why it needs a different approach from the cheeks or the forehead.
People come to us about the under-eye area for a few different reasons, and they are not all the same problem:
- Thin, crepey skin and fine lines. This is what PRP is aimed at.
- Shadowing. Sometimes this is the skin itself. Sometimes it is pigment. Sometimes it is a hollow, where light falls into a dip below the eye and reads as a dark circle. PRP behaves differently in each case.
- Puffiness or bags. PRP is not the treatment for this.
That is why the consultation matters more here than almost anywhere else. Looking at the area in person is the only way to tell which of these you actually have, and we will say plainly if we think PRP will not do what you want.
PRP Under Eyes or Tear Trough Filler
Tear trough filler and PRP under the eyes are often discussed together and they do different jobs.
- Tear trough filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed to fill a hollow. It adds volume, it works quickly, and because it is a product placed under delicate skin it carries its own set of considerations.
- PRP under the eyes adds nothing but your own plasma. It is aimed at the quality and thickness of the skin rather than at filling a hollow, and it builds gradually across a course.
Neither is a substitute for the other. If a hollow is the main thing bothering you, PRP alone may disappoint you, and we would rather say so at the consultation than take the booking.
What to Expect, Including Bruising
On the day
Allow 45 minutes. Numbing cream is applied and left to work, then the plasma is placed in small amounts across the under-eye area. Most people find it quick and very manageable.
Bruising
Be realistic about this one. The under-eye area bruises more readily than anywhere else on the face, and pinpoint bruising is common rather than unusual. It usually fades over several days and make-up covers it from the day after. If you have something important coming up, leave at least a week between the appointment and the event, and tell us at booking so we can time it sensibly.
Afterwards
Keep the area clean and free of make-up for the rest of the day. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming, strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours, and use SPF. Any change builds over the weeks following each session rather than appearing straight away.
