How laser works on brown and olive skin
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair. On lighter skin there is a strong contrast between hair and skin. Brown and olive skin holds more pigment, so the laser has to reach the hair without overheating the skin around it.
The Soprano Titanium combines three wavelengths: 755 nm, 810 nm and 1064 nm. The 1064 nm wavelength reaches deeper and is less absorbed by the pigment near the surface of the skin, which is why it is used for darker skin tones. Your practitioner chooses the settings for your skin type at your patch test.

Your patch test and preparing your skin
Patch test. We test the settings on a small area and check your skin before your first full session. Your consultation and patch test are free.
Sun and tanning. Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan for 2 weeks before each session. Tanned skin holds more pigment, so we may need to wait.
Shave, do not wax or thread. Shave the area the day before. Avoid waxing, threading, epilating and plucking during your course, because laser needs the hair root in place.
Medication and skin products. Some medicines and skin products make skin more sensitive to light, so we check these at your consultation.

Lasers with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength are generally used for darker skin tones, because this wavelength is less absorbed by the pigment near the surface of the skin. The Soprano Titanium includes 1064 nm alongside 755 nm and 810 nm, so the settings can be matched to your skin and hair.
There is a small risk of temporary changes in skin colour, such as lighter or darker patches, on any skin tone and more so on darker skin. We reduce this risk with a patch test, settings chosen for your skin type and clear advice on sun exposure. We explain possible side effects at your consultation.
